And so the King is once again my guest. And why is this? Was Herod unimpressed?

We turn to Rome to sentence Nazareth. We have no law to put a a man to death.

We need him crucified - it's all you have to do.

Pilate

Talk to me Jesus christ

You have been brought here - manacled, beaten by your own people.

Do you have the first idea why you deserve it?

Listen King of the Jews, Where is your kingdom?

Look at me. Am I a Jew?

Jesus

I have no kingdom in this world. I'm through.

There may be a kingdom for me somewhere, if you only knew.

Pilate

Then you are a king?

Jesus

It's you that say I am.

I look for truth and find that I get damned.

Pilate

But what is truth? Is truth a changing law? We  both have truths. Are mine the same as yours?

crowd

Pilate

What do you mean?

You'd crucify your king?

crowd

We have no king but Ceasar!

Pilate

He's done no wrong. No, not the slightest thing.

crowd

We have no king but Ceaser! crucify him!

Pilate

What is this new ! respect for Ceaser?

Till now this has been noticeably lacking.

Who is this Jesus? Why is he different? You chose Messeiahs by the sack full.

crowd

We need him crucified. It's all you have to do.

Talk to me, Jesus Christ.

Look at your Jesus Christ. I'll agree he's mad. Ought to be locked up.

But that is not a reason to destroy him.

He's a sad little man. Not a King or God. Not a thief.

Pilate

Behold a man, behold your shattered King.

Pilate

You hypocrites.

You hate us more than him.

I see no reason. I find no evil. This man is harmless, so why does he upset you?

He's just misguided, thinks he's important,

But to keep you vultures happy I shall flog him.

Pilate

Where are you from Jesus? What do you want Jesus? tell me.

You've got to be careful - you could be dead soon could well be

Why do you not speak when I have your life in my hand?

How can you stay quiet? I don't believe you understand.

Jesus

You have nothing in your hands.

Any power you have comes to you from far beyond.

Everything is fixed and you can't change it.

Pirate

You're a fool Jesus Christ.

Pirate, Crucify him!

Remember ceasar. You have a duty to keep the peace, so crucify him!

Don't let me stop your great self destruction.

Die if you want to you misguided martyr.

I wash my hands of your demolition.

ピラト

はっ、またも王が客人として来られたか。これは一体どういう事だ？ヘロデは感銘を受けられなかったかな？

カイファス

ナザレの刑罰法ではなく、ローマにお願いしたい。我々には人を死なせる法律がない。

彼を磔にする必要がある。ーそれが、あなたのすべき全てだ。

話してみろ、ジーザス・クライスト。

お前はここへ連れてこられた。－手かせをされ、打ちのめされて。お前の民自身らによって。

何故そのような仕打ちを受けるのか、まず思い当たることはあるか。

聞け、ユダヤの王よ。お前の王国はどこにある？

私を見ろ。私は、ユダヤ人か？

ジーザス

この世に王国など、私はもっていない。人生で一度も。

私のための王国ならどこかにあるのかもしれない、もし、あなたが知っているのなら。

ピラト

それならお前は王なのか。

ジーザス

私が王だというのはあなたが言った事だ。

私は真実を求めているが、見つけたのは私に対する非難だ。

ピラト

だが、真実とは何か？法を改めるのが真実か？我々はそれぞれに真実を持っている。私のはお前のそれと同じものか。

群衆

磔に！磔に！

ピラト

それはどういう意味だ！自分達の王を磔にするのか？

群衆

シーザー以外に王などいない！

ピラト

彼は何も悪い事はしていない。何も。ほんの些細な悪さも。

群衆

シーザー以外に王などいない！彼を磔に！

ピラト

これはまた新しい！シーザーを敬うのか？

今の今までそれは全く欠落していた事だ。

このジーザスは何者だ？彼はなぜ違う？一袋の麦で救世主を選んだのではないのか？

群衆

彼を磔にする必要がある。ーそれが、あなたのすべき全てだ。

ピラト

話せ、ジーザスクライスト。

お前らのジーザスクライストを見ろ。気違いである事には同意する。手かせも仕方がないだろう。

しかし、彼を破滅させる理由にはならない。

彼は悲しい小さな男だ。王でも神でもない。泥棒でもない。

裁きが必要だ！

ピラト

この男をよく見ておくんだ。この、お前たちの疲れ切った王を。

群衆

シーザー以外に王などいない。

ピラト

この偽善めが！

この男以上に我々を嫌いなくせに。

群衆

シーザー以外に王などいない。磔に！

ピラト

理由がない。悪意も見えない。この男は無害だ。なのに何がお前たちを混乱させる？

この男は、ただ勘違いに導かれた。自分は重要な人間だと。

だが、お前たちハゲタカのような冷血ども

を幸せにするため、私はこの男を鞭打ちと処す。

群衆

磔に！磔に！磔に！

ピラト

お前は何者だ、ジーザス。何を望んでいるのだ、ジーザス。話してくれ。

よく気を付けろ、－すぐに死ぬ事も解放する事も出来るんだぞ。

お前の命は、私の手の中にある。なのに、なぜ喋らない。

なぜ沈黙でいられる。全て理解しているとは思えないぞ。

ジーザス

あなたの手の中には何もない。

あなたが持つあらゆる力は、はるか遠くから来ているものだ。

全ては決められていて、あなたが変える事は出来ない。

ピラト

馬鹿だジーザスクライスト。

どうすれば助けられる？

群衆

ピラト、磔にしろ！

忘れるなシーザー、義務がある。平和を保つ義務が、だから奴を磔にしろ！

繰り返し。

ピラト

あなた様の偉大なる自己崩壊を、私に止めさせないでおくれ。

死にたいなら死ぬがいい、この受難者ぶった勘違いめ。

お前の破滅から、私は手を洗うぞ。
